Job summary

YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area is seeking a Camp Specialist to design and deliver a program specialty tailored to age groups. You will work with counselors to provide quality programming, nurture creativity, cooperation, skills and self-esteem, and lead activities with support from staff.

The role emphasizes safety, ACA/NJ standards compliance, and the YMCA four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, with opportunities to contribute to themes and special events

Qualifications

• Two years’ experience teaching, youth work, recreation or related field.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to supervise others.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications.
• Understanding age-specific characteristics of children and positive behavior management techniques.

Responsibilities

• Plan, setup and deliver activities within specialty area that are age specific and engaging for campers.
• Instruct Counselors on how to teach Activities and encourage leadership.
• Lead specialty activities with assistance from Counselors.
• Manage supply inventory and assist in ordering supplies.
• Ensure activities are well thought-out, diverse, progressive and fun.
• Uphold YMCA values and safety standards in all camp activities.
• Participate in general camp activities and themes as needed.
