Job summary

YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area is seeking a GO Club Counselor to supervise and engage K–6 students afterschool in a safe, structured environment. You will support social, emotional, and academic development through planned activities and meaningful relationships.

The role emphasizes collaboration with staff, families, and community partners, while upholding YMCA values and policies. Must be 18+, have a high school diploma or GED, and be CPR/First Aid certified (provided on hire).

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months of experience working or volunteering with children preferred.
• Demonstrates positive role-model behavior and professionalism.
• Interest in daily interaction with children and youth development.
• CPR and First Aid certifications (will be provided upon hire).
• Excellent communication with children, parents, school staff and coworkers.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality required.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision and ensure safety of all participants.
• Maintain attendance and punctuality for shifts; report absences.
• Implement curriculum and planned activities per program schedules.
• Foster positive relationships with children through guidance and mentorship.
• Communicate with families, schools and YMCA leadership about participant experiences.
• Collaborate with team and school staff to maintain a positive program environment.
• Adhere to YMCA policies, values, and abuse prevention procedures.
• Attend required trainings and model professional behavior.
