YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area is seeking a Junior Camp Counselor to support counselors and ensure the well-being and enjoyment of campers. You will help supervise groups, reinforce camp rules, and model the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

You will work with a dynamic team to create a positive, inclusive environment, learn campers’ names, and assist in activities, meals, and field trips while maintaining high safety standards.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of youth development principles.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with staff, parents and others.
• Knowledge of horse care and riding as applicable.
• Knowledge of low and high ropes courses, teambuilding and climbing as applicable.
• Knowledge of hiking, canoeing, biking or other high adventure activities as applicable.
• Creativity, innovation, and ability to problem solve while upholding YMCA mission.

Responsabilités

• Supervise campers alongside counselors in cabins, dining halls and during activities.
• Assist counselors in keeping campers engaged and safe.
• Learn and use campers' names; greet campers warmly and with respect.
• Develop positive relationships with families; understand YMCA core values.
• Assist in planning camp activities, trips and special events.
• Follow safety policies, risk management and supervision procedures.
