Job summary

Whole Foods Market is seeking a Bakery Decorator to create and decorate cakes, tarts, and pastries, ensuring high-quality finishes and customer satisfaction. You will follow standard procedures and contribute to store programs while upholding safety and cleanliness standards.

The role requires assembling and finishing bakery items, maintaining records, and supporting apprentices. A fast-paced environment with a focus on quality and customer service is expected.

Qualifications

• Efficient cake and pastry decorating skills with intermediate piping techniques.
• Knowledge of color theory for buttercream color blending and palette coordination.
• Proficiency in icing types including Swiss/American buttercream, ganache, cream cheese icing, and meringues.
• Ability to follow recipes, directions, and procedures; strong time management.
• Advanced knife handling and safety for decorating tools and equipment.
• Basic math for recipe conversions and adjustments.
• Strong communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team.
• Ability to deliver information clearly to customers, vendors, and teammates.
• Commitment to meeting customer service standards with a sense of urgency.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, fill, and finish/decorate cakes, tarts, and special-order bakery items.
• Build, ice, and decorate cakes and other bakery items per procedures; maintain production and spoilage records.
• Prioritize production lists and adjust as needed for demand.
• Merchandise products in display cases and ensure freshness and proper rotation.
• Guide Bakery Decorator Apprentices and other team members.
• Create special order cake designs based on customer preferences.
• Provide excellent customer service and handle inquiries promptly.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary work/shopping environment and equipment.
• Perform opening, mid, and closing duties with accurate signage and pricing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
