Job summary

Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a Facility Support Technician I to sanitize, organize, and maintain animal cages and equipment, and to assist with cage wash systems. The role supports animal health and welfare in a controlled facility environment.

Responsibilities include monitoring environmental parameters, processing shipments, training junior staff, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of related experience.
• Experience with laboratory animal facility operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Sanitize, organize, and maintain animal cages and equipment using cage washers, tunnel washers, bedding dispensers, and autoclaves.
• Perform routine maintenance and assist with troubleshooting of cage wash equipment; escalate complex issues to senior staff or supervisor.
• Sanitize animal rooms, cages, equipment, corridors, and support areas to promote animal health and welfare and comply with policies.
• Monitor environment and equipment by collecting data, documenting it, and comparing it to established standards; maintain accurate records.
• Receive and process shipments from loading dock; assist with packaging and disposal of waste materials following proper procedures.
• Provide guidance and informal training to Facility Support Technician I staff on standard operating procedures.
• Assist with special projects and cross-train in other facility areas as needed.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for operational efficiency.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
