Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health seeks a sanitation technician to maintain cleanliness of animal cage components and related equipment. You will process items through cage washers, manage waste bedding, and ensure proper sterilization using autoclaves.

The role requires teamwork, basic computer use, and physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Responsibilities include following SOPs, reporting issues to the supervisor, and maintaining a clean, safe environment for animals in the facility.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• 0-1 years related work experience.
• Able to work as part of a team and follow detailed instructions with minimal supervision.
• Able to work under odors, heat, humidity; physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Basic computer navigation in web-based applications.

Responsibilities

• Sanitize cage components and related equipment using mechanical cage washers per SOPs and animal care guidelines.
• Process waste bedding using vacuum or HEPA disposal units; wear PPE when handling waste bedding.
• Operate cage wash units per SOPs and manufacturer instructions; report deficiencies to supervisor.
• Stage cage components and ensure they are in good working condition; report deficits immediately.
• Operate steam autoclaves to sterilize equipment; verify cycle indicators and log results.
