Job summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin, Inc. is seeking a Facility Support Technician to sanitize and maintain animal housing and equipment, ensuring welfare and compliance.

You will participate in environmental monitoring, receive shipments, and assist with waste disposal in a team-driven, healthcare environment. Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma and 2+ years of related experience, with strong attention to detail and robust communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; 2+ years experience in a related role preferred.
• Knowledge of laboratory animal facility operations and sanitation methods.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Must maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
• Physical ability to move feed, bedding, cages and equipment; lift and push heavy objects.

Responsibilities

• Sanitize, organize, and maintain cages and equipment using cage and tunnel washers and autoclaves.
• Perform routine maintenance and assist with troubleshooting of cage wash equipment; escalate as needed.
• Sanitize animal rooms, cages, corridors and support areas per procedures to promote welfare.
• Monitor environment and equipment; document data and compare with standards.
• Receive shipments, assist with packaging and disposal of waste per procedures.
• Provide informal training to Facility Support Technician I staff on SOPs.
• Assist with special projects and cross-train in other facility areas.
• Identify opportunities for operational efficiency and participate in continuous improvement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
