Job summary

NC State Highway Patrol seeks a skilled Cook to join the cafeteria team at their Raleigh facility. The Cook will prepare quality meals and support a fast-paced kitchen environment, following standardized recipes and safety protocols.

Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 5:00 am to 1:30 pm, with holidays possible. Candidates should have experience cooking in large quantities and maintain high personal hygiene and sanitation standards in line with food safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• Experience preparing and cooking food in large quantities.
• General knowledge of uses and adaptability of various cooking equipment in commercial/institutional kitchens.
• Ability to uphold high standards of personal hygiene and ensure proper food sanitation practices.
• Ability to perform simple mathematical computations.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Daily planning and preparation of meals based on number of customers including starting the cooking process and observing food while cooking.
• Following standardized recipes, reading menus, and obtaining necessary ingredients for meal preparation to assure quality and nutritional value.
• Check supplies and pull meats from freezers to thaw in time for preparation.
• Check production schedules and determine variety and quantity of food.
• Assist in preparation of meals and sanitation requirements.
• Assist in serving food and cleaning of kitchen areas.
• Follow OSHA safety guidelines and county health codes.
