Job description

SupplyHouse.com, an innovative and industry-leading e-commerce company, is looking for a new Business Development Lead! This individual will be responsible for driving Business-to-Business growth initiatives such as building strategic relationships with government agencies, universities, Trades services platforms, and Trades enterprises (Plumbing, Heating, HVAC, Electrical) across the U.S. This leadership role will serve as the face of an organization and focus on expanding our customer base, maximizing revenue, and establishing SupplyHouse.com as a trusted partner for public institutions.

This is a remote-based role within select states in the United States. At this time, we are only able to employ those located in the following states: Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

This position will require travel up to 60% of the year , including to our NY office headquarters six times per year for internal meetings and team-building activities. The cost of travel for employees out of the area will be covered by the company. Additionally, our offices are always available for staff to use as much as desired.

Role Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Location: Remote (Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington)

Schedule: Standard business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET. However, there is some flexibility as per our Flex-Time Policy.

Salary: The estimated base salary range for this role is $145,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications, plus a target bonus of up to 30% based on achievement of annual sales targets.

Responsibilities:

  • Sector Growth and Revenue Generation
    • Lead the expansion of the organization’s customer base in the education and government sectors, focusing on maximizing sales revenue from public entities such as colleges/universities, and Federal, State, and Local government agencies.
    • Lead the development of strategic initiatives to forge and nurture partnerships with new customers to generate additional revenue streams.
    • Oversee and guide the sales cycle by pursuing leads, nurturing client relationships, and progressing opportunities from prospecting to close.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Build, mentor, and manage a high-performance business development team, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and innovation.
    • Establish clear goals and performance metrics for the team, providing regular feedback and creating opportunities for professional development.
    • Serve as a source of guidance and support, empowering the team to meet and exceed objectives.
  • Market Analysis and Strategy Development
    • Monitor and analyze market trends to understand target audiences, aiding in the creation of effective sales leads and strategies.
    • Identify and evaluate market opportunities through research, keeping up with industry developments, networking, cold calling, tradeshows, and conferences.
    • Establish and maintain a robust network within the sector and continually evaluate competitor strategies to maintain a competitive edge.
    • Plan and execute our integration with key Trades services platform(s) to ensure enduring support of both small- and large-scale TradeMasters, driving increasing share of wallet.
  • Customer Engagement and Communication
    • Build inside sales team that engages with current and prospective customers via phone and email.
    • Act as a trusted advisor with customers to emphasize the benefits and features of our products and services, becoming a source of insight on tools and features to build into our tech roadmap.
  • Collaboration and Reporting
    • Gather relevant information and collaborate with internal teams to compile and submit comprehensive reports to management.
    • Create, update, and manage sales reports and prospective client lists to ensure accurate and up-to-date records.
    • Maintain strong cross-functional partnerships with Customer Experience, IT, Product Management, Customer Service, Merchandising, and Operations.
  • Negotiation and Bid Management
    • Oversee the bid process for SupplyHouse.com while ensuring compliance with contracts in the education and government sectors.
    • Optimize bidding strategies and build partnerships to acquire the business of new customers.
    • Represent the organization in high-level negotiations with key clients and government entities, ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in Sales, Business Development, Account Management, or other related fields.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • 5+ years of experience working with academic institutions and/or government agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively and develop strong relationships.
  • Strong critical and creative thinking skills to solve complex problems, enhanced by proficiency in spreadsheet-driven analysis and data manipulation.
  • Proven ability to adapt to and manage shifting priorities, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and remain flexible in a dynamic, high-growth environment.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills, with the ability to lead teams and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Product knowledge in the Trades, notably Plumbing, Heating/HVAC, and Electrical.
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software for tracking customer outreach and sales leads.
