Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is seeking a dedicated bus driver to safely transport campers and staff to day camps and events, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines. This role supports our mission of empowering youth and families with reliable, caring transportation.

Under supervision of the Afterschool Director, you will check routes, manage attendance, perform vehicle inspections, and maintain required certifications, reporting incidents as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ year experience with children in a structured setting.
  • Must be 21+ and able to pass background and drug screening.
  • Must pass Motor Vehicles Record check and have own transportation.
  • First Aid/CPR certifications must be obtained within 30 days.

Responsibilities

  • Transport campers and staff to day camps and off-site events safely.
  • Take attendance and provide safety information at the start of each trip.
  • Inspect the vehicle for safety and report any issues.
  • Follow traffic regulations and drive in a safe manner for passengers.

Nature And Scope

Under direction of the Afterschool Director or Youth Development Director, the bus driver is responsible for the safe transportation of all campers and staff while in route to and from Y Day camp locations and off-site events.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including, But Not Limited To)
  • Teach the basic skills of courtesy and safe driving to campers in a safe and respectful manner.
  • Take attendance and provide safety information at the start of each trip.
  • Inspect the vehicle for all safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Follow all traffic regulations and guidelines and drive in a manner that ensures the safety of their passengers.
  • Carry out daily program tasks related directly to the position's scope and responsibility.
  • Maintain branch and association certifications in CPR,Metro Atlanta YMCA for New Staff Orientation and Branch Emergency proceduresand any other required certifications and/or training required by the Metro Atlanta YMCA.
  • Responsible for maintaining and reporting incident/accident paperwork.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma OR GED
  • 1+ years of experience working with children in a structured setting
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Required certifications current First Aid/CPR;must obtain within 30 days of hire as well as any other certifications for the position
  • Pass a criminal background and drug screening check
  • Pass a Motor Vehicles Record Check and have own transportation
  • CPR within 30 days of employment and maintain throughout employment
  • Exemplify YMCA ideals, leadership qualities
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality.
  • Pass background checks, BFTS background checks, and drug screening
Ergonomics

Ability to work actively while supervising children. Ability to climb, walk, run, stoop, squat or kneel. Ability to lift and carry equipment to appropriate destinations or affect the carrying of such equipment. Ability to use senses which enable safe supervision including seeing and/or hearing.
