Job Summary

The bus driver is responsible for safely transporting campers and staff to and from Y Day camp locations and off‑site events under the direction of the Afterschool Director or Youth Development Director.

Responsibilities

• Teach basic courtesy and safe driving skills to campers in a safe and respectful manner.
• Take attendance and provide safety information at the start of each trip.
• Inspect the vehicle for compliance with all safety guidelines and regulations.
• Follow all traffic regulations and drive in a manner that ensures the safety of passengers.
• Carry out daily program tasks related directly to the position’s scope and responsibilities.
• Maintain certifications in CPR, YMCA orientation, and emergency procedures, and any other required certifications.
• Maintain and report incident/accident paperwork.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience working with children in a structured setting.
• Minimum age of 21 years.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification, and obtain it within 30 days of hire.
• Pass a criminal background, drug screening, and motor vehicle record check.
• Own reliable transportation.
• Exemplify YMCA ideals, leadership qualities, and personal commitment to service and hospitality.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills.

Ergonomics

• Ability to actively supervise children while moving, climbing, walking, running, stooping, squatting, or kneeling.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment as necessary.
• Use of senses (seeing and/or hearing) to ensure safe supervision.
