Job summary

Pearland Independent School District is seeking a School Bus Driver to provide safe and orderly transportation for students to and from school and on extracurricular trips. Responsibilities include adhering to routes, safety practices, and communicating clearly with dispatch and school staff.

Must meet licensing, age, and reporting requirements and pass background checks and drug screenings. This is a critical, community-focused role.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be able to pass annual physical and drug/alcohol screening as required by federal law.
• Valid Class B Texas CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements and DPS School Bus Driver Certification are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, orderly, and efficient transportation of students to and from school and on extracurricular trips.
• Follow planned routes and adhere to school district safety policies.
• Maintain communication with dispatch and school staff.
• Assist with student supervision as needed for safety and order on the bus.

• Valid Class B Texas Commercial Driver's License with passenger and school bus endorsements
• Current Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
• Must maintain an acceptable driving record for school bus drivers as defined by Texas Department of Public Safety

• Must be able to pass an annual physical and mental examination as required by Texas Department of Public Safety
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screening as required by federal law
• Must be able to proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English

Experience

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Must be physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to perform evacuation procedures; continuous sitting, reaching, bending; repetitive hand and arm motions; work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (heat); exposure to vehicle fumes. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
