Job summary

Pearland ISD is seeking a school bus driver to provide safe, orderly transportation for students to/from school and on extracurricular trips. Must hold valid Class B Texas CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements, and DPS School Bus Driver Certification.

Positions require meeting strict health and driving standards. Applicants should be able to pass required screenings, read/write English proficiently, and maintain composure while supervising groups of students.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Must maintain an acceptable driving record for school bus drivers as defined by Texas Department of Public Safety.
• Must be able to pass an annual physical and mental examination as required by Texas Department of Public Safety.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screening as required by federal law.
• Must be able to proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Provide safe, orderly, and efficient transportation of students to and from school and on extracurricular trips.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid Class B Texas Commercial Driver's License with passenger and school bus endorsements
• Current Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
• Must maintain an acceptable driving record for school bus drivers as defined by Texas Department of Public Safety
• Must be able to pass an annual physical and mental examination as required by Texas Department of Public Safety
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screening as required by federal law

Experience:

• Experience working with children preferred but not required
• Experience as a school bus driver preferred but not required

WORKING CONDITIONS

Mental Demands:

Maintain emotional control; ability to communicate effectively; ability to maintain effective control over groups of students

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

• Must be physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to perform evacuation procedures; continuous sitting, reaching, bending; repetitive hand and arm motions; work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (heat); exposure to vehicle fumes. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
