Job summary

Pearland ISD is seeking a School Bus Driver to transport students safely to and from school and on extracurricular trips. You will operate a school bus, follow routes, and supervise students during transit.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, valid Texas CDL Class B with endorsements, DPS certification, and the ability to pass physical, mental, and drug/alcohol screenings. 178 work days, pay grade 401.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Class B Texas CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
• Current Texas DPS School Bus Driver Certification.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must pass annual physical and mental examinations as required by Texas DPS.
• Must pass pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screening as required by federal law.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate verbally in English.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, orderly, and efficient transportation of students to and from school and on extracurricular trips.
• Operate school bus to transport students and ensure safety.
• Follow district routes and schedules.
• Maintain discipline and supervise students during transit.
• Complete pre-trip inspections and report maintenance issues.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED

Licenses And Certifications

• Valid Class B Texas Commercial Driver's License with passenger and school bus endorsements
• Current Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
• Must maintain an acceptable driving record for school bus drivers as defined by Texas
• Department of Public Safety
• Must be able to pass an annual physical and mental examination as required by Texas Department of Public Safety
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screening as required by federal law
• Must be able to proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English

Experience

• Experience working with children preferred but not required
• Experience as a school bus driver preferred but not required

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Must be physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to perform evacuation procedures; continuous sitting, reaching, bending; repetitive hand and arm motions; work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (heat); exposure to vehicle fumes. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
