Job summary

UMass Chan Medical School is seeking a Building System Operating Engineer to oversee the safe and reliable operation of the campus facilities. You will monitor mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and DDC control systems, respond to staff and patient requests, and perform preventive maintenance as assigned.

The role requires a trade school credential or equivalent, 4 years of building operations experience, knowledge of HVAC systems, and the ability to read drawings and manuals.

Qualifications

• Trade school graduate or equivalent experience in building systems.
• 4 years in operation of complex building systems including HVAC.
• Ability to read manuals, sketches, and performance graphs.
• Willingness to travel to off-site locations.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, inspect and test mechanical and control systems.
• Respond to staff, patients, visitors, and animal needs.
• Perform preventive maintenance on building equipment and systems.
• Document procedures and system operations clearly.
• Communicate incidents to supervisor promptly.
• Repair equipment and systems as needed.
• Understand function and operation of building utilities.
• Work from manuals, drawings, and service documents.
• Ensure safe and orderly operation of facilities.
