Job summary

JLL is seeking an Operating Engineer in Cambridge, MA to oversee the operation and maintenance of facility mechanical systems, fire/life safety, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical infrastructure. The role emphasizes reliability-based maintenance and safety, with hands-on troubleshooting and coordination with contractors.

You will manage logs, use BAS tools, and support site leadership with estimates and proposals, while adapting to project demands and after-hours emergencies as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1+ years of facility-related work experience.
• Customer service experience is required.
• Leadership and supervisory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) essential.
• Proficiency with CMMS and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to read and understand operator manuals, specs and drawings.
• Knowledge of building infrastructure regulations.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire/life safety, and temperature controls.
• Respond to alarm conditions and implement corrective actions.
• Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and BAS using OEM standards.
• Perform maintenance on steam systems, humidifiers, and steam traps.
• Respond to sensor alarms (O2/CO2) and complete repairs.
• Maintain engineering logs and CMMS work records.
• Develop estimates and present proposals to site leadership.
• Escort and supervise outside contractors to ensure safety and quality.
