Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide routine cleaning in rest rooms at shift start, restocking supplies and disinfecting high-touch areas.
• Perform full-service cleaning before shift end: replace trash bags, restock supplies, disinfect toilets and urinals.
• Clean offices and other areas, including sweeping, mopping and vacuuming on a set schedule.
• Strip, wax and polish floors and move furniture as needed.
• Clean interior windows quarterly or as requested.
• Prepare areas for meetings or events and assist with setup.
• Assist in inventory control and maintain organized closets.
• Complete work orders and participate in mandatory training.

Scope of Job

To perform routine manual work involving the custodial maintenance of buildings.

Description of Duties

• Provides routine general cleaning in all rest rooms at the beginning of the shift, including but not limited to restocking of all supplies from all areas, disinfection of all high touch areas to include toilets and urinals and spot mopping as needed.
• Provide full-service cleaning before end of shift to include replacing all trash bags, restocking all supplies, disinfecting all toilets, urinals, and high touch areas, picking up trash from floor and sweeping and mopping.
• Cleans all areas nightly excluding offices. Duties include general wipe down of furniture, trash removal, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
• Cleans all the offices once a week (Thursday) to include general cleaning, trash removal, sweeping mopping or vacuuming, dusting, and wiping down all clear areas on furniture.
• Strips, waxes and polishes floors as scheduled to include shampooing carpets, deep cleaning and scrubbing floors and walls as needed. Move furniture as required.
• Cleans and washes all interior windows on a quarterly basis as needed or per request.
• Cleans and polishes furniture and equipment as needed in all areas.
• May prepare areas for meetings, seminars and other student, faculty and staff functions.
• Picks up and disposes of material to be recycled.
• May be required to have flexible work schedule, to include but not limited to working evenings, weekends, Holidays and overtime on projects and/or events or emergencies.
• May be required to carry a two-way radio and be available on and “On call” basis.
• Assists in inventory control as well as on keeping their assigned closets organized at all times.
• Completes assigned work orders during the shift as directed.
• Participates and completes mandatory or assigned training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work schedule: expected to work primarily night and weekends or rotating schedule including weekends. Usual office building conditions. Some exposure to inclement weather when moving between buildings and emptying trash. May be exposed to other hazardous wastes, chemicals, and/or conditions. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

• 2nd Schedule: 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM
• 3rd Schedule: 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM

As part of their essential duties, employees in these roles are expected to maintain a consistent, in-person presence on campus at their assigned locations. Limited exceptions may apply for positions that are approved as hybrid or fully remote in accordance with UTRGV policies.

Must be physically able to perform all essential functions and duties of the job. Requires considerable stooping, bending, kneeling, walking, lifting, and carrying of heavy objects to perform job duties. Requires moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of heavy furniture, equipment, trash cans, boxes, files, filing cabinets, and other objects weighing up to 50 lbs. when working alone and 100 lbs. with help. Must be able to climb step ladders and maintain balance to clean and wash windows and lighting.
