Job summary

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas, is seeking a Preventive Maintenance Mechanic to perform journeyman-level maintenance and repairs across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Scope of Job

To provide journeyman level skills performing maintenance andrepair in the areas of mechanical, electrical, and plumbingsystems.

Description of Duties

• Performs preventative maintenance on designated buildings, whichincludes installing, repairing, and maintaining equipment in theareas of lighting, plumbing, and some mechanical systems.
• Responds to trouble calls in assigned buildings and throughoutcampus as needed.
• Ensures that all assigned equipment and devices are functioningproperly in designated buildings by replacing parts as needed andcleaning/replacing based established schedule or need.
• Disposes of all items to be discarded per establishedEnvironmental Health and Safety procedures.
• Performs daily inspections of interior lighting, equipment, andbelts for various pieces of mechanical equipment in the designatedbuildings and replaces/repairs as needed.
• Inspects condition of mechanical equipment and replace asneeded.
• Assists other maintenance personnel, when required.
• Maintains and cleans mechanical rooms as needed and services theroom's floor drains.
• Maintains and cleans elevators and shafts.
• Replaces worn components in designated equipment beforemechanical breakdown occurs.
• May serves as a backup for Preventive Maintenance Leader alongwith campus police and Environmental Health and Safety staff toelevator issues/malfunctions including entrapment.
• May be responsible for executing a series of steps to resetelevators to their normal operating condition and to make servicecalls to Elevator Company as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
