Job summary

Horner & Shifrin is seeking a full-time Bridge Project Engineer in our Structural Business Unit in Illinois. This role requires 5+ years of experience and a PE license. Preference for Illinois structural licensure and IDOT/Tollway bridge project exposure.

The candidate will perform calculations, participate in drafting construction drawings, and contribute to reports and cost estimates while collaborating with a project team. The position offers a competitive salary and employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.
• Illinois Structural Engineer license preferred.
• Experience with IDOT or Illinois Tollway bridge projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in MicroStation.
• Knowledge of Structural Bridge Design Software.
• Bridge inspection experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow Bridge Practice production and design standards and procedures as delegated by the Project Manager.
• Perform and check structural engineering calculations of bridges, retaining walls, and other transportation infrastructure structures using company, client, and industry standards.
• Participate in the preparation and checking of structural construction drawings created by teammates to meet firm and client requirements.
• Develop and check cost estimates.
• Participate in the preparation of reports and studies.
