Job summary

Horner & Shifrin seeks a full-time Bridge Project Engineer in our Structural Business Unit to work on state and municipal bridge projects.

The role requires 5+ years of experience and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering; a Master’s degree is preferred, with IL PE licensure preferred.

You will follow design standards, perform structural calculations, check drawings, develop cost estimates, and assist with reports; the firm offers a broad benefits package and Employee Stock Ownership.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer
• Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois (preferred)
• Experience with design and detailing of IDOT or Illinois Tollway bridge projects (firm requirement)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in MicroStation
• Knowledge of Structural Bridge Design Software
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Must complete a background check
• Ability to traverse structural sites, including heights and rough terrain

Responsibilities

• Follow Bridge Practice production and design standards and procedures as delegated by the Project Manager.
• Perform and check structural engineering calculations of bridges, retaining walls, and other transportation infrastructure structures using company, client, and industry standards.
• Participate in the preparation and checking of structural construction drawings created by teammates to meet firm and client requirements.
• Develop and check cost estimates.
• Participate in the preparation of reports and studies.
