Job summary

Horner & Shifrin, Inc. seeks a full-time Bridge Project Engineer in our Structural Business Unit. The role, based in multiple office locations including O’Fallon, MO/IL and Chicago, IL, requires 5+ years of experience and licensure as a Professional Engineer.

Prior Illinois DOT/Tollway bridge project experience is preferred. The successful candidate will design, check, and coordinate bridge projects, prepare drawings, estimates, and reports, and travel to job sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is required or equivalent.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) is required; Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois preferred.
• Experience with IDOT or Illinois Tollway bridge projects is a firm requirement.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Proficiency in MicroStation and knowledge of structural bridge design software is required.

Responsibilities

• Follow Bridge Practice production and design standards and procedures as delegated by the Project Manager.
• Perform and check structural engineering calculations of bridges, retaining walls, and other transportation infrastructure structures.
• Participate in the preparation and checking of structural construction drawings.
• Develop and check cost estimates.
• Participate in the preparation of reports and studies.
