Job summary

Horner & Shifrin, Inc. seeks a full-time Bridge Project Engineer in the Structural Business Unit in Illinois. The role requires 5+ years of experience and involves designing, checking calculations, drawings, and cost estimates for bridge projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
• Master of Science in Civil Engineering (preferred).
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
• Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois (preferred).
• Experience with IDOT or Illinois Tollway bridge design.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in MicroStation and bridge design software.
• Experience with bridge inspection (preferred).
• Ability to traverse job sites, heights and rough terrain.
• Valid driver’s license and background check required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

• Follow Bridge Practice production and design standards and procedures as delegated by the Project Manager.
• Perform and check structural engineering calculations of bridges, retaining walls, and other transportation infrastructure structures using company, client, and industry standards.
• Participate in the preparation and checking of structural construction drawings created by teammates to meet firm and client requirements.
• Develop and check cost estimates.
• Participate in the preparation of reports and studies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Licensed Professional Engineer
• Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois (preferred)
• Experience with design and detailing of IDOT or Illinois Tollway bridge projects (firm requirement)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in MicroStation
• Knowledge of Structural Bridge Design Software
• Previous bridge inspection experience (preferred)

SALARY RANGE:

Horner & Shifrin, Inc. offers a comprehensive total rewards package and is committed to fair, competitive, market-based compensation. The target salary range for this position is $95,000 - $140,000. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, and geographic location.
