Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach is hiring a Motor Equipment Operator I in the Department of Public Works – Street Maintenance. This role operates heavy equipment to move sand, gravel, concrete and asphalt, and drives light-duty trucks to haul tools and materials between job sites.

Required: a minimum of 10th grade, at least one year of related experience, a current valid driver's license, and a Class B CDL. The position is safety sensitive and may require drug testing and weather-related shifts.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of tenth (10th) grade, plus one (1) year of experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required for this position.

Responsibilities

• Operate a dump truck in connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel, concrete, and asphalt.
• Operate a light-duty truck to transport tools, equipment, and supplies to and from job sites.
• Operate a motor truck engaged in snow removal or sanding of icy streets and roads.
• Operate a pothole patcher truck and roller to repair minor roadway defects.
• Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported by truck.
