Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a Motor Equipment Operator I to support the Street Maintenance section of Public Works. You will drive dump trucks, light trucks, motor graders, broom trucks, and pothole patchers to keep roadways safe and passable.

Minimum qualifications include a 10th grade education and at least one year of relevant experience, plus a valid driver’s license. The schedule is Monday–Thursday, 6:30 am–5 pm, with potential evenings, weekends, and overtime during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of tenth grade and at least 1 year of relevant experience.
• Must have a current and valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
• All employees may be subject to drug testing and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operate a dump truck to transport sand, stone, gravel, and asphalt.
• Operate a light truck to carry tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Operate a motor grader to level soil and a broom truck for street maintenance.
• Operate a pothole patcher truck for roadway repairs and loading/unloading materials.
• Respond to weather events (snow/ice) and assist with emergency operations when needed.
• Follow supervisor assignments based on workload and department needs.
