Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach is hiring a Maintenance Worker in the Bridge Maintenance group within the Department of Public Works. The role focuses on repair and replacement of guardrails, and requires operating light equipment and performing manual tasks on bridges and related structures.

Work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. A pre-employment physical and a valid driver’s license are required; this safety sensitive position may involve drug testing and readiness for

Qualifications

• Completion of 7th grade plus one (1) year of experience in municipal public works maintenance or construction, or any combination of experience and training providing required knowledge.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Position is a safety sensitive role subject to drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Repair and/or replacement of damaged guardrail systems.
• Operate light automotive equipment and maintenance tools as needed.
• Assist with vegetation removal near headwalls and slope protection.
• Perform manual work on bridges, culverts, and guardrail systems.
• Work as assigned by supervisor based on workload and department needs.
