Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a highway maintenance worker to perform general maintenance and operate heavy equipment (backhoe, excavator, lowboy, etc.) to repair bridge deficiencies on the state highway system. Tasks include grading, mowing, concrete work, painting, and placing steel sections.

Required is one year of related experience, and a valid driver's license with a Class A CDL to be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Perform highway maintenance and operate heavy equipment to repair bridge deficiencies.
• Operate medium equipment for construction, repair and preservation of bridges on the state highway system.
• Place traffic control devices and maintain work zones per the SCDOT manual.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
