Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a general highway maintenance worker to perform bridge-related maintenance and operate heavy equipment across the state highway system. Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or approved equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Must attain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months.

Responsibilities

• Perform highway maintenance and operate heavy equipment (backhoe, mini excavator, lowboy) to repair bridges.
• Operate medium equipment (skid steer, tandem dump truck) for construction and preservation of bridges.
• Place traffic control devices and set up safe maintenance work zones per guidelines.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; may work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
