Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Bridge Inspection Engineer in Indiana to inspect in-service bridges and culverts, perform field inspections, and prepare technical reports. You will work as part of a two-person team across the state, supporting load rating and design calculations while pursuing licensure.

The role emphasizes mentorship, professional development, and collaboration with state and municipal projects. Travel across Indiana is required, with a fully onsite work environment in Indianapolis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Experience in bridge or transportation inspection.
• Ability to obtain Indiana PE license within 4 years.
• Ability to obtain INDOT bridge inspection certification within 1 year.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to inspection sites throughout Indiana.

Responsibilities

• Work in teams of two to perform field inspections on in-service bridges and culverts across Indiana.
• Conduct condition assessments of bridges and culverts per standards and guidelines.
• Prepare clear bridge inspection reports documenting findings and recommendations.
• Perform load rating calculations to evaluate bridge capacity.
• Identify deficiencies and propose major repairs for safety and serviceability.
• Estimate costs for repairs and major work items.
• Prioritize repairs based on severity and risk.
• Communicate inspection findings clearly to clients and team.
• Assist bridge design with structural calculations and plan development as needed.
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure quality and schedules.
• Travel to project sites across Indiana as needed.
