Job summary

The State of Indiana, through INDOT, seeks an Indianapolis-based Bridge Inspection Area Engineer to supervise three district teams, ensure inspections meet FHWA standards, and support statewide policies. A PE license is required; some statewide travel is expected.

This role provides training, a state vehicle, and opportunities to contribute to public safety and infrastructure. Experience in civil engineering or bridge inspection is valued; a degree is not required if you have at least four years

Qualifications

• Must hold a PE license in Indiana.
• Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license.
• Broad knowledge of civil/transportation disciplines and FHWA standards.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and to communicate with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee three district bridge inspection teams and inspect state-owned bridges, large culverts, and retaining walls.
• Supervise routine, in-depth, and underwater inspections per FHWA regulations.
• Develop and implement statewide bridge inspection policies and procedures.
• Conduct annual QC/QA reviews of bridges to ensure compliance.
