Job summary

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges, is looking for a skilled Carpenter to maintain and repair elevated infrastructure in Brooklyn, Manhattan and beyond. You will read plans, perform rough and finish carpentry, and operate woodworking tools to support bridge projects.

Expect to work from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with potential evenings or weekends. Residency within NYC is generally required; a NY driver’s license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Five years of full-time carpentry experience within the last ten years, or three years plus relevant vocational training.
• Ability to read plans and sketches and perform rough, finish and general carpentry tasks.
• Willingness to work at heights and in confined spaces; may require evenings or weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform installation and repair work related to the city's elevated infrastructure.
• Build and repair toolboxes, ladders and other equipment; operate hand and powered woodworking equipment.
• Keep job records and adhere to safety and quality standards.
