Job summary

New York City Department of Transportation seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer to perform bridge inspections, oversee preventive maintenance by contractors on the East River bridges, and prepare design plans, sketches, maps and specifications.

The position requires a civil engineering degree, field surveys, and the ability to drive to multiple sites in all weather. Strong AutoCAD and MS Office skills are essential, and a valid NY driver's license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or civil engineering technology with required experience or a Master's degree in civil engineering.
• Ability to perform inspections in all weather conditions, including nights and weekends.
• Preference for a NY driver’s license and molar vehicle operation may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform civil engineering work of moderate difficulty and responsibility.
• Inspect bridges and oversee preventive maintenance by contractors on East River Bridges.
• Prepare design plans, sketches, working drawings, maps and technical specifications.
