Job summary

City of New York is seeking a Carpenter for the NYC Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges. The position covers rough, finish, and general carpentry for the city’s elevated infrastructure, including building and repairing toolboxes, ladders, and related equipment.

Qualifications

  • Five years of full-time carpentry experience within the last ten years.
  • Three years of experience plus relevant trade school can total five years.

Responsibilities

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City.

Performs installation and repair work involving rough, finish, and general carpentry related to the maintenance of the city’s elevated infrastructure; builds and repairs toolboxes and various types of ladders and other equipment; works from plans and sketches; operates both hand and powered woodworking equipment; keeps job records; performs related duties. Some duties may require working at heights and in confined spaces. May be occasionally required to work evenings and weekends.

Preferred Skills
  • Possession of a driver’s license valid in the State of New York. Employees must maintain the license during their employment.

CARPENTER - 92005

Qualifications
  1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Carpenter acquired within the last 10 years; or
  2. Three years of experience as described in “1" above, plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade or vocational school training.
