The State of South Carolina Department of Public Health is seeking a WIC Breastfeeding Support Specialist to promote breastfeeding and provide ongoing support to mothers enrolled in the WIC program. Under supervision, you will contact mothers using clinic visits, calls, texts, and emails, and coordinate follow-up contacts post-delivery.

You will perform prenatal contacts at specific gestational weeks, maintain accurate confidential records, and refer complex cases to the breastfeeding

Formación

• High school diploma and relevant human services experience.
• Ability to contact WIC mothers by clinic, phone, text, emails, letters or hospital visits.
• Maintain accurate records and confidentiality of client information.

Responsabilidades

• Promotes breastfeeding to pregnant women and provides support to breastfeeding mothers enrolled in the WIC Program.
• Contact WIC Breastfeeding moms by clinic, phone calls, text messages, emails, letters or hospital visits within 1-7 days and 8-14 days after delivery to provide breastfeeding support.
• Make a contact by clinic, phone calls, text messages, emails, letters or hospitals once a week for the next three weeks after birth and a minimum of once a month thereafter as long as the mom is breastfeeding.
• Refer breastfeeding moms/infants with complex breastfeeding situations to the breastfeeding coordinator.
• Make prenatal contacts at 16,20,24,27,31,35,39,40 and 41 weeks gestation using Natural Nutrition resources.
• Keep accurate records of all contacts made with WIC mothers. Maintain strict confidentiality of client information.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor(s) and/or Breastfeeding Coordinator related to the position.
