Job summary

South Carolina Department of Public Health in Rock Hill seeks a breastfeeding support specialist to assist pregnant women and new mothers enrolled in the WIC program. You will contact moms post-delivery, provide breastfeeding guidance, and coordinate with the breastfeeding team.

Responsibilities include prenatal outreach, referrals for complex cases, inviting participation in classes, maintaining confidential records, and attending trainings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant human services experience.
• Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality and records.
• Experience or familiarity with WIC programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Contact WIC breastfeeding moms in hospital/clinic, by home visits, or by phone within 24-72 hours, 3-6 days and 8-14 days after birth.
• Provide breastfeeding support and maintain regular contact at least weekly for the first 3 weeks post-birth and monthly thereafter.
• Refer complex breastfeeding cases to the breastfeeding coordinator or designated expert.
• Make prenatal contacts at 16, 20, 24, 27, 31, 35, 39, and 40 weeks gestation.
• Invite WIC mothers to breastfeeding classes and support groups; provide basic WIC information.
• Keep accurate, confidential records of all contacts; attend trainings as scheduled.
• Carry out other duties as assigned by Supervisors and/or Breastfeeding Coordinator.
