Job summary

Candidate Experience site is seeking a part-time health program assistant to support WIC mothers with breastfeeding information and counseling. You will handle routine contacts, provide basic breastfeeding guidance, and refer participants to community resources.

You will work with staff to promote breastfeeding initiatives and attend related trainings. Requirements include a high school diploma, personal breastfeeding experience, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Has breastfed or provided their own expressed human milk to at least one baby.
• Ability to work effectively with other staff and leadership.
• Ability to listen and advocate for a participant.
• Knowledge of basic breastfeeding principles.

Responsibilities

• Receives a caseload of WIC mothers and makes routine periodic contacts with all mothers assigned.
• Gives basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming barriers, and getting started.
• Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone, in-person, and/or hospital visits at scheduled intervals.
• Adheres to confidentiality requirements, including HIPAA.
• Refers mothers to appropriate organizations according to clinic protocols.
• Attends prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups.
• Promotes breastfeeding peer program through outreach events and special projects.
• Participates in quality improvement efforts and PHAB accreditation requirements.
• Attends conferences, seminars, trainings, or related classes.
