Job summary

NORTHEAST TEXAS PUBLIC HEALTH DISTRICT DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES seeks a Full-Time WIC Breastfeeding Counselor to assist in clinics, educate participants, and promote breastfeeding in the community. Responsibilities include counseling mothers, maintaining records, and training staff while accommodating flexible hours and Bring Baby to Work provisions.

Qualifications include a high school diploma and bilingual English/Spanish abilities; experience breastfeeding a child and former WIC

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) reading, writing, and speaking skills preferred.
• Experience: Must have successfully breastfed at least one baby and must have been a WIC Participant at one time.

Responsibilities

• Assist WIC Program professionals in clinic as needed teaching classes.
• Educate participants and community on breastfeeding advantages and management of normal breastfeeding experience.
• Counsel breastfeeding and pregnant mothers in waiting areas, by telephone, and in hospital.
• Maintain inventory, timesheets and records related to breastfeeding.
• Flexible in schedule; may work outside regular hours and bring infant to work when allowed.
