Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Public Health is seeking a breastfeeding support specialist for Rock Hill to work under general supervision, assisting pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers enrolled in the WIC program. You will contact moms at specified intervals and coordinate with the breastfeeding team to promote healthy breastfeeding practices.

The role requires a high school diploma with experience in human or social services, strong communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus experience in human services or social services.
• Ability to contact clients and provide breastfeeding support.
• Commitment to confidentiality and accurate record keeping.

Responsibilities

• Contact WIC breastfeeding moms in hospital/clinic, during home visits, and by telephone within 24-72 hours, 3-6 days and 8-14 days after delivery.
• Refer breastfeeding moms/infants with complex breastfeeding situations to the breastfeeding coordinator or designated breastfeeding expert.
• Make prenatal contacts by telephone at 16, 20, 24, 27, 31, 35, 39, and 40 weeks gestation.
• Invite WIC mothers to breastfeeding classes and support groups; provide breastfeeding information and basic WIC information.
• Keep accurate records of all contacts with WIC mothers; maintain confidentiality; attend meetings and assist trainings.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor(s) and/or Breastfeeding Coordinator.
