Job summary

The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) seeks a dynamic Branch Manager to lead the Thompson Library in Little Rock. This full-time leadership role focuses on creating an inclusive, welcoming environment for staff and patrons while delivering excellent public service.

You will supervise daily operations, hire and train staff, manage scheduling and evaluations, and oversee budget-related cash handling and project initiatives, all while engaging with the local community.

Qualifications

• MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program, or current progress toward MLS.
• Bachelor's degree plus at least three years of related experience and/or training.
• Previous management or supervisory experience.

The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) is seeking a dynamic, customer-focused, and collaborative Branch Manager to lead the Thompson Library, located at 38 Rahling Circle, Little Rock, Arkansas. This full-time leadership opportunity is ideal for a positive and forward-thinking professional who is passionate about public service and committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for staff and patrons alike.

The Branch Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of branch operations, including daily service delivery, staff hiring, training, supervision, scheduling, performance management, and evaluation. Additional responsibilities include some budget‑related cash handling, project leadership, and ensuring exceptional customer service throughout the branch.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong leadership, supervisory, and project management skills, along with experience utilizing library technologies, electronic information services, and emerging trends in public library service. The ideal candidate is an innovative and approachable leader who values collaboration, embraces change, and is committed to serving a diverse community of all ages and backgrounds. Active engagement with and knowledge of the local community are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an ALA-accredited program, or current progress toward an MLS; or
• A bachelor's degree plus at least three years of related experience and/or training; and
• Previous management or supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements:

Candidates must be able to reach, bend, lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods as needed.

Schedule:

This position requires flexibility and includes some evening and weekend hours.

Compensation:

Salary starts at $55,307 annually, accompanied by an outstanding benefits package.
