Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools is seeking a Boys Baseball-Assistant Coach at Proviso East High School. The role supports the Head Coach in planning, implementing, and evaluating the baseball program, fostering a safe, inclusive, and development-focused environment for student-athletes.

Under the Athletic Director's supervision, the assistant will assist with practice design, game-day logistics, and equipment management while ensuring compliance with IHSA rules and district policies.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate (Type 03, 09, or 10) or ASEP/NFHS certification.
• CPR and AED certification required for all high school athletic coaches.
• Background check and fingerprinting clearance required by Illinois School Code and IHSA.
• Completion of IHSA-concuss awareness training and other safety protocols as required by state/federal regulations.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Head Coach to design and run skill-development drills, practice plans, and conditioning sessions.
• Provide individualized feedback to student-athletes on technique, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Assist with game-day logistics, including equipment setup, venue preparation, team warm-ups, and scorekeeping.
• Maintain and inventory athletic equipment, coordinating repairs, storage, and issuance.
• Monitor adherence to IHSA rules, district policies, and safety protocols, including CPR/AED readiness and concussion management.
• Support athlete eligibility tracking and manage required documentation such as physical exams and academic clearances.
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff, serving as liaison and elevating concerns to the Head Coach as needed.
• Participate in preseason parent meetings, team briefings, mandatory trainings, and postseason tasks such as equipment returns and award presentations.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by administration.
• Assist the Head Coach and Athletic Director with developing the game schedule and coordinating travel logistics.
• Support budget management by tracking season expenditures, reconciling equipment orders, and maintaining inventory records.
• Help prepare materials for parent and booster meetings, support public-relations efforts, and disseminate program updates.
• Aid in preparing compliance documentation for Title IX, ISBE, IHSA, and district policies under the Head Coach's direction.
• Coordinate with the Athletic Director and Principal on equipment purchases, coaching assignments, and community partnerships.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administration.
