Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools is seeking a Boys Baseball - Assistant Coach (Junior Varsity) to support the Head Coach in planning, implementing, and evaluating the program. The role emphasizes safety, inclusivity, and student-athlete development within a collaborative school community.

The ideal candidate will hold IHSA-compliant certifications, coaching experience, and strong instructional skills to foster a positive team culture and academic growth among players.

Qualifications

• Illinois teaching certificate or equivalent certification (IHSA-affiliated)
• CPR/AED certification compliant with IHSA regulations
• IHSA concussion awareness training completed
• Background check and fingerprinting clearance obtained
• Title IX training completed
• In-depth knowledge of the sport, rules, and strategies
• Proven coaching experience in the sport
• Strong instructional skills for individual and team development
• Commitment to a diverse, inclusive athletic program
• Coaching certification through ASEP/NFHS/IHSA-approved programs (for non-teaching staff)
• Concussion certification with typical two-year validity

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Head Coach to design and run drills, practice plans, and conditioning sessions
• Provide individualized feedback to student-athletes on technique and sportsmanship
• Assist with game-day logistics including equipment setup, venue prep, warm-ups, and scorekeeping
• Maintain and inventory athletic equipment; coordinate repairs and distribution
• Monitor IHSA rules, district policies, CPR/AED readiness, and concussion management
• Support athlete eligibility tracking and document physicals and academic clearances
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff; escalate concerns appropriately
• Participate in preseason meetings, trainings, and postseason equipment returns
• Coordinate with Head Coach on game scheduling and travel logistics
• Assist in budget tracking and equipment inventory management
• Prepare materials for parent meetings and booster updates; support PR efforts
• Aid in preparing compliance documentation for Title IX, ISBE, IHSA, and district policies
