Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is actively recruiting Border Patrol Agents (BPAs). This federal role offers opportunities at GL-5, GL-7, GL-9 or GS-11 levels with promotion potential to GS-12, and a comprehensive benefits package including health and retirement plans.

BPAs perform inspections, surveillance, and enforcement near U.S. borders, using a range of assets to protect the nation while supporting lawful travel and trade.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating ability to take charge and make sound decisions.
• A bachelor's degree or completion of a full four-year course of study from an accredited college or university.
• A combination of general work experience AND college education may suffice for qualification.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws; inspecting documents and possessions.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using various methods.
• Interpreting tracks and evidence of illegal entry; performing patrols and checks.
• Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using diverse assets.
• Complying with agency mission to enforce laws and protect the United States.
