Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at multiple duty locations across the United States. Base pay ranges by grade, with annual benefits including health, dental, and retirement plans, plus available recruitment and retention incentives.

Newly appointed BPAs may receive recruitment incentives up to $20,000 and retention incentives up to $30,000 over three years. Grades range GL-5 to GS-11 with potential for promotion to GS-12.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and maintain composure in stressful situations; or
• A bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree; OR
• A combination of general work experience AND college education.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and infrared scopes.
• Interpreting tracks and evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband.
• Performing farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using a variety of assets to fulfill the USBP mission.
