Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking Border Patrol Agents (BPA) to support its mission of safeguarding the United States by preventing illicit entry and enforcing immigration and customs laws.

The roles are full-time and span entry to mid-level career levels, with multiple duty locations across the country. Compensation includes base pay within the BPAs' grade bands, comprehensive federal benefits, and potential recruitment/retention incentives.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience or a bachelor's degree substitution.
• Combination of experience and education allowed; education may substitute for experience.
• Note: detailed qualification requirements vary by grade level (GL-5/GL-7/GL-9/GS-11) and may require specialized experience.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws; inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using patrol methods.
• Interpret tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry; assess and document findings.
• Conduct farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
• Patrol international boundaries and coastal waters using vehicles, horses, vessels and other assets to fulfill CBP mission.
