Job summary

The American Red Cross in Lawrence, KS is seeking Blood Collection Staff to assist with the blood collection process, equipment setup, and donor interaction. Paid phlebotomy training is provided to grow healthcare skills within the organization.

You will work with a team to transport and set up equipment at collection sites, create a welcoming environment for donors, and ensure safety procedures are followed while collecting lifesaving blood donations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Customer service experience and verbal communication skills required.
• A valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
• DOT certification required; able to obtain a medical certification of at least one-year duration.
• Physical ability to lift/pull heavy objects and work long, irregular hours.
• Minimum height of 60 inches may be required for vehicle operation.

The Blood Collection Staff role involves assisting with the blood collection process including equipment setup, donor interaction, and ensuring safety procedures are followed. The position offers paid phlebotomy training and opportunities to grow healthcare skills within the American Red Cross.

Responsibilities

• Utilize healthcare and/or customer service skills to assist with every step of the blood collection process
• Collaborate with team members to transport and setup equipment at collection sites
• Create a welcoming and comfortable environment for volunteer donors
• Follow all safety procedures while collecting lifesaving blood donations
• Take time to personally connect with donors and help them understand the impact of their donation
• Be detail oriented to ensure blood collected meets goals and regulatory requirements
• May drive Red Cross vehicles and assist with setup and teardown of equipment at donation sites

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required
• Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required
• A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record is required
• DOT certification is required, you must pass applicable DOT physical and related requirements and be able to possess or obtain a medical certification of at least one-year duration
• Physical requirements may include the ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes are required
• Position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles
• Basic computer skills are required
• Must be proficient with Microsoft office applications
• Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.) is preferred
• Prior leadership experience is preferred
