Job summary

GE Healthcare in Reston, VA seeks an experienced Biomedical Equipment Technician to service hospital equipment, perform PMs, conduct safety inspections, and maintain strong customer relations. You will lead BMET activities, mentor technicians, and ensure compliance with GE policies and hospital protocols.

The role requires 4+ years in medical equipment servicing, engineering education, and the ability to communicate technical issues clearly to clinical staff. Travel and on-call duties may apply.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Biomedical, or Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years servicing medical equipment
  • Proficiency in electronic documentation using technological tools (e.g., Ipad, Iphone)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Experience developing and maintaining good customer relations at all levels
  • Experience interfacing with internal team members and external customers as part of a solution based service process
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to the customer in an easy to understand manner
  • Ability to work independently and as a team to implement solutions through problem solving
  • Must comply with GEHC's standard background check, including a post-offer drug test

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate complex customer biomedical equipment issues
  • Implement appropriate repairs and perform planned maintenance (PM)
  • Conduct safety and environmental inspections
  • Maintain effective customer relations and drive customer satisfaction through Service Excellence
  • Lead others regarding GE policies, procedures, hospital protocol, and documentation
  • Establish proactive daily communications with customers to ensure resolution and follow-up
  • Partner with teammates and colleagues
  • Implement GE/customer facility contracts and support customer and business goals
  • Lead, instruct, and assist technicians on basic and complex repairs/resolution
  • Provide efficient service delivery to all accounts within the assigned area
  • Delegate tasks and perform administrative duties
  • Provide help, share best practices, and mentor others
  • Share on-call responsibility
  • Document repair actions and submit reports/summaries according to schedule
  • Care for spares, tools, and test equipment; ensure calibration
  • Maintain approved parts inventory
  • Manage vendor service delivery processes in compliance with GE policies
  • Maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures for safe and effective medical equipment use
  • May serve as site leader in Reston, VA, directing BMET activities, engaging customer relationships, interacting with customer leadership, and participating in a Safety Committee

Requirements


  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of experience servicing medical equipment; OR equivalent military education and 4+ years of experience servicing medical equipment; OR High School Diploma/GED and 6+ years of experience servicing medical equipment

  • Proficiency in completing electronic documentation using technological tools (e.g., Ipad, Iphone)

  • Familiarity with technological programs (e.g., Microsoft Office)

  • Experience developing and maintaining good customer relations at all levels (e.g., nurses, doctors, leadership)

  • Experience interfacing with internal team members and external customers as part of a solution based service process

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to the customer in an easy to understand manner

  • Ability to work independently and as a team to implement solutions through problem solving

  • Must comply with GEHC's standard background check, including a post-offer drug test

  • Must comply with customer access policies, including required immunizations and additional drug tests or background checks when applicable

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

  • No employment visa sponsorship available

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 lbs. unassisted

  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, twist, climb, crouch/squat, kneel/crawl, sit and stand for long periods

  • Ability to reach at, above and below shoulder level, flex/extend neck, and have good hand and finger dexterity

  • Specific vision abilities may include color and close vision
