Job summary

GE Healthcare is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician to respond to service calls, diagnose and repair basic biomedical equipment, and perform planned maintenance and safety inspections.

The role requires an associate or bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent military education), 1 year of related experience, strong communication skills, and willingness to work after hours or on-call; adherence to hospital protocols and regulatory standards.

Job description

  • Respond to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, and repair customers' basic biomedical equipment
  • Perform planned maintenance and safety/environmental inspections
  • Assist experienced technicians with basic and complex repairs/resolution
  • Communicate and partner with teammates and colleagues
  • Follow GE policies, procedures, hospital protocol, and complete required documentation
  • Maintain daily customer communications to ensure resolution and follow-up
  • Implement GE/customer facility contracts and support business objectives
  • Provide efficient service delivery to accounts within the assigned area
  • Share on-call responsibility when trained
  • Document repair actions and submit scheduled reports/summaries
  • Care for spares, tools, and test equipment and ensure calibration
  • Maintain technical knowledge of standards, codes, and procedures for safe medical-equipment use
  • Use manuals, technical support, FaceTime, and online resources when performing planned maintenance
  • Meet Health and Human Services, Environment Health and Safety, and other regulatory requirements
Requirements
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; OR equivalent military education; OR participant in the formal GEHC Biomed/FE Services Internship or Military Externship program; OR High School Diploma/GED and 2+ years of experience servicing electrical, electronics, IT or mechanical equipment
  • One year of related experience
  • Analytical and communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to the customer in an easy to understand manner
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required
  • Must comply with GEHC's standard background check, including a post-offer drug test
  • Must comply with customer access policies, including required immunizations and additional drug tests or background checks
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, twist, climb, crouch/squat, kneel/crawl, sit and stand for long periods
  • Ability to reach at, above and below shoulder level, flex/extend neck, and use good hand and finger dexterity
  • Specific vision abilities may include color, close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception
  • Willingness to be available after hours or work a rotating on-call schedule, including weekends
