Job summary

Blue Water Thinking, LLC seeks a Biomedical Equipment Technician – Info/Sys for the Iowa City VA Medical Center. You will ensure reliability, functionality, and safety of networked medical equipment through preventive and corrective maintenance, inspections, cybersecurity collaboration, installations, and software updates.

The role requires a strong technical background, problem-solving skills, and commitment to high patient care standards. Cerner EHR experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Two-year associate degree or higher in an applied science or equivalent military training.
• Minimum of three years in hospital or healthcare equipment maintenance, with one year in medical information systems and networking.
• Knowledge of computer virus protection software, available patches and upgrades, information security tools.
• Experience with TCP/IP, HL7, networking, network security and DICOM standards; VLAN configuration, IP addressing and sub-netting.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical literature, schematics, and drawings.
• U.S. work authorization without sponsorship; ability to obtain federal public trust clearance.
• Must provide proof of COVID and Flu vaccinations or valid exemptions.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on a diverse range of networked medical equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
• Diagnose and repair malfunctions in medical devices following manufacturer guidelines and specifications.
• Carry out incoming inspections of new medical equipment for safety, functionality and accuracy.
• Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to implement medical device security protocols.
• Install, calibrate, and configure medical equipment per manufacturer instructions.
• Monitor hazard recalls and coordinate with manufacturers for timely resolution.
• Perform software repairs and updates to address glitches and ensure compatibility.
• Maintain accurate CMMS records of maintenance, repairs and inspections.
• Provide training to medical staff on proper operation of networked equipment.
• Keep up with industry trends, regulations and standards in biomedical tech.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure seamless equipment operations.
• Experience with Cerner EHR integration is preferred.
