Job summary

Sidley Austin LLP in Illinois is seeking a Client Portfolio Supervisor to manage the billing life cycle for large client accounts and optimize revenue. You will advise partners on billing practices, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and drive process improvements to ensure timely collection and high service levels.

You will supervise a Billing Senior Coordinator, provide coaching, and ensure compliance with client requirements and internal controls, while maintaining strong relationships

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree is required.
• Five years of progressively responsible billing experience.
• Experience training, mentoring, or supervising billing professionals.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; also proficient in Word and PowerPoint.
• Ability to analyze complex billing issues, identify root causes, and develop solutions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own the full life cycle of billing time entries for assigned matters from inception to final collection.
• Advise partners on billing practices and guide lawyers and assistants on time-entry and billing.
• Analyze financial data and aged unbilled time to identify trends and escalation needs.
• Collaborate with Revenue-cycle teams to resolve complex issues and minimize delays.
• Maintain knowledge of billing arrangements, Outside Counsel Guidelines, and electronic billing requirements.
• Identify and implement process improvements to streamline billing and strengthen controls.
• Supervise and train the Billing Senior Coordinator and conduct annual performance reviews.
• Ensure coverage and continuity for the portfolio and coordinate backup resources.
• Monitor compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and client requirements.
• Promote analytical thinking, problem-solving, and continuous process improvement.
