Job summary

Archdiocese of San Antonio is seeking a Youth Care Worker to provide daily care and supervision for unaccompanied alien children (UAC) under the direction of Evening and Weekend Supervisors. The role ensures health, safety and well-being while delivering trauma-informed care in alignment with policy and standards.

The position emphasizes maintaining professional relationships, accurate documentation, and a team-driven approach to support educational, recreational and life-skill activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences or equivalent.
• High school diploma plus 1 year of child welfare-related experience.
• Experience with children in a residential setting is preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish required.
• Reliable transportation; valid driver's license; valid vehicle insurance.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining positive, supportive and professional relationships with UAC and program staff.
• Elevating concerns related to UAC and staff within required timeframes.
• Completing all required documentation accurately and on time.
• Ensuring resident-to-staff ratio is maintained.
• Utilizing positive behavior management techniques including redirection and de-escalation.
• Responsible for the overall care, supervision and safety of children in care.
• Facilitating educational, recreational and spiritual activities.
• Participating in daily community meetings to support UAC.
• Teaching life skills such as problem solving and time management.
• Assisting with daily chores to maintain a clean environment.
• Cooperating with coworkers and supervisors, providing feedback.
• Maintaining dialogue with workers on other shifts for continuity of care.
• Mentoring newly hired Youth Care Workers during training period.
• Reporting to work as scheduled and ensuring supervision of residents.
• Adhering to safety protocols and health standards.
