Job summary

Westerly Public Schools seeks an ELL Paraprofessional to assist multilingual learners with English language development under teacher supervision. The role includes supporting students individually or in small groups and helping adapt curriculum and assessments.

Responsibilities include facilitating language acquisition, maintaining confidentiality, and using Microsoft and Google tools to track progress. Fluency in Spanish, Chinese, or Portuguese is required; strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor's or Associate's degree preferred.
• Experience in a school environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• MLL paras will support students in acquiring English as a second language, may perform verbal or written translations and support home school communication.
• Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
• Assists the teacher in modification and implementation of curriculum, instruction and assessment.
• Uses age and developmentally appropriate instructional procedures and reinforcement techniques.
• Assists children with academic and/or functional skills of previously introduced concepts following teacher instruction and direction.
• Physically able to restrain a student if necessary, using district safety care techniques and standards.
